The position of Senior Technical Advisor, Environmental sits within Maritime NZ's Maritime Systems Assurance team. The team provides high quality technical advice and assurance to internal and external stakeholders regarding international, domestic, maritime, environmental, and port and harbour sector issues. The Group also provides oversight of sector participants, strategic liaison with sector groups, and assurance to the Director of Maritime NZ that maritime and environmental regulatory and compliance systems are effective.
This particular role is pivotal in providing specialist technical advice, expertise and analysis to support our marine environmental protection functions. Maritime NZ are also responsible for providing NZ’s Marine Pollution Response Service (MPRS) and this role provides environmental advice about marine oil spill planning, preparedness and response.
The role contributes to NZ’s participation in the work of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), including collaborating with other agencies to formulate and communicate the NZ position on marine environmental issues.
